Everyone has a little Hoy in them

Post by Wolter »

We all like things that other people make fun of us for. I've always admired Potsie for both his ability to take it in stride and to not be ashamed of his piss poor taste in music.

So as a public service to him, let's all list the stuff we genuinely like that we're pretty sure would get us mocked here by a significant portion of posters under most circumstances. And remember, these aren't guilty pleasures: Matey has no shame, and neither should you.

Oh, and CTC doesn't count - this is about the only place in the world you WON'T get mocked for that.

My starting list (most of these things I've been pretty upfront about, actually):

Jim Croce
Fat Elvis
Dwight Yoakum
Led Zeppelin
Judas Preist
Iron Maiden
Early Police (but I hate Sting)
Nebraska by Bruuuuuuce
The Spice Girls first album
Bizzarre Ride II the Phar Cyde
The Exploited
Sham 69
Cyndi Lauper
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Queen's Greatest Hits
Post-Richey Manics

I could probably name plenty more.

I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

No. But I am intrigued. Country musicians make good food, usually...

CCR is quite respectable it's the post CCR John Fogerty that becomes suspect.
Sham69 - you could do worse, I own an album, I don't listen to it but I don't toss it out either.
None strike me as really awful though.

I dont think any of them are awful. Most are things I have seen at least one member of this board make fun of in the past. Except the Phar Cyde, although hip hop not made by Malcolm McClaren seems frowned upon in some quarters.

Just to second Wolter's initial statement, I respect the hell out of Hoy for taking our abuse so well. Is taste is usually shit, but he's got a ton of character.

A few things that spring to mind that I don't especially brag about and/or would generate ridicule 'round these parts:
The Weepies
Hem
Magnetic Fields
Sufjan Stevens
Belle & Sebastian
Camera Obscura
OMD
Some of Avril Lavigne's catchier singles
Pet Shop Boys
Saint Etienne

(In general, wimp pop.)
"Grab some wood, bub.'" - Richard Nixon, Checkers Speech, abandoned early draft

CCR has a lot of good songs, and "Fortunate Son" is on the short list of nominees for best song ever the tep awards tm

I like the Elton John/Kiki Dee duet, as I've said before, and the Free Credit Report.com jingle.

I'm not going to make fun of you, as this thread is meant to be a safe place, but I have to say that I hate those commercials about as much as I've ever hated anything. Epecially the one where the guy has to work at a pirate restaurant. That has a false premise. Your credit score has nothing to do with how good or bad a job you get...

Getting a good job has everything to do with giving a good *job.
