To the end of one side or the other changing their mind, no, that's rare. But if you participate respectfully and sincerely—as you have a track record for doing—it's always appreciated. It's about the process, not the conclusions. (Which is another way of saying you'd be a shit activist—they're necessarily about the ends.)

I enjoy a debate I just find it frustrating on the internet especially in an open forum with many bit part players. You end up going round in circles.

Depends on the participants and how respectful they are to an honest discussion. There are only a few people who are more interested in regurgitating talking points (now available in fancy poster form!) and acting like trolls. It also helps to have a moderator to keep things focused, but that's not the deal here. On the whole, however, those who choose to participate in more serious discussions around here are several cuts above the average.

Yeah, I've never understood people who can't be bothered to do more than regurgitate talking point catchphrases and oh so very selectively respond to posts (i.e., ignore direct questions, but address minor points of a statement with prepackaged phrases). Do they think they're persuading anyone? If you're joining a conversation, don't you at least to have some self-respect to put some effort into honestly arguing your point?

In the end though--I think, hope--that if someone maybe looks at the issue a little deeper because they were exposed to an argument then it is good. The internet is the ultimate 2 edged sword--you can find almost anything to back up your argument --copy, paste--but some will take it to the next step and either/or learn more about what their arguing/see what the other side has to say.

I swear to God Clapton was replaced with some kind of android after Cream.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I can support that theory. Cream is good. Everything else he does makes me hate life.

At least the Pauldroid was good for a few years before it started sucking hardcore.

I bought Cream of Clapton back towards my end of high school Classic Rock phase. The Cream stuff is pretty original, but I still don't really like it that much. The Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominoes cuts (Presence of the Lord, Layla, and Bell Bottom Blues) were all quite good. The solo stuff is tolerable but not particularly noteworthy.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
