My friend's wife used to be quite high-strung. One time he and I were playing basketball outside of their apartment and we saw her drive up, so we decided to go down to the river. While we were walking, she called him to see where the HELL he was. When he said he was going with me down to the river for a bit, she flipped out and he said don't worry about it, and hung up. Then she called back and said "don't you ever hang up on me," and while they were arguing about that, she took his 1964 Fender Mustang like a baseball bat against their dresser, completely demolishing it.
I'm the only one to notice this?

It occurred to me today that I have no idea what the reference to pulling out a plum is in "Down in the Tube Station at Midnight"

And I'm down in the tube station at midnight
I fumble for change, and pull out the Queen
Smiling, beguiling
I put in the money and pull out a plum

I put in the money... I assume that the electronic ticket vending machines were operational by then... or maybe a vending machine for snacks/drinks. But "pull out a plum"? The only reference I know is from Little Jack Horner pulling out a plum from Xmas pie. It's not like getting a ticket would be a treat though.
I've often wondered about that line as well. I've searched it a few times online and the best answer I've come across had to do with the underground tickets having been cards that were plum colored, so I've assumed he was just purchasing a ticket to ride.
Purple coloured writing supports the idea.

My american brain just always assumed that tube stations used to have fruit automats in them.

Volunteering at the annual village festival. I’ve heard a lot of cover band music and I’ve decided that Styx is the most awful dog shit band ever. They should salt the Earth when that garbage band finally calls it quits.

Totally garbage band. No songs that I can find tolerable in an "okay, I suppose" way.

Well, this is gross—playing ads on the screen between acts.

Ice Spice is a good rapper and popstar, I really don't like the idea of it catching on.

Eh, there's nothing else going on between acts so I guess it doesn't bother me. It's like ads before movies (not talking about official trailers, like when ads play during the wait time before the show officially starts).
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Not every public space should have commercials. Not every moment needs to be monetised.

I get it, I just have a short attention span.

If I ever hear of an act doing ads between sets at a concert I absolutely will not attend. Fuck that.
