Horrible song, and yes, Rod's voice annoys me greatly too.
Was it that one or some other awful Rod Stewart dirge that kept the Pistols off the No.1 spot? Was only reminded of that the other day after hearing Paul Heaton claim on Top of the Pops 86 that Thatcher was responsible for Caravan of Love not getting to No.1. He didn’t offer any evidence for it, but still have no problem believing him.
I thought Caravan Of Love was #1
Your right, it was. What Heaton was actually alleging was that they rigged it so it wasn’t No.1 the following week as it was the Xmas chart.
Don’t remember Maggie releasing a Xmas single?
How many really thought it was an anti government song.
Blue Christmas.

Any song with "love" in the title is an anti government song. ;)

A curiosity soon to be tested: The armband holder for my iPod when I bike is in rough shape, so I went on eBay to order a new one. While I was there, I poked around looking for a back-up pair of earbuds. The ones I have work fine, but the plastic-rubber coating is wearing off in areas. I've used that spray-on stuff to cover it. Works fine, tho it looks now like they were made by Dr. Frankenstein. Whatever. Still, I figured a back-up pair wouldn't b a bad idea. Out of curiosity, I ordered from China a pair that cost, no lie, $1.50, free shipping. I expect them to be complete crap, despite the claim of "max bass," but I was intrigued what $1.50 headphones would sound like. For listening to audiobooks, they don't have to great dynamics, so they may end up being okay for that. In a couple months, I'll find out!

I've been surprised by earbuds at times. Picked up a pair at a Walgreen's a few years back for a couple of bucks and they were excellent. Picked up another pair from Target for a few dollars more and they were awful. I've got a pair in my desk right now that I paid a buck for - not great, but not awful.

Who knows whether these things are brand-name manufactured but remaindered for some reason. If they're halfway decent, fuck, I'll order another half dozen.

That could be a bonus, too!

The Jahrhundertring is such a great production. The Marxism makes it so effective as drama, which does honor to Wagner more than stodgy staging.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

An obsession: Me and this song. Like a manic spy movie theme with a female Mark E. Smith singer. That rhythm track sounds like it's about to fall apart and explode. I so fucking love it.

Cha Cha Cohen would make a great name for a Jewish drag queen. Much better than my alter ego, Helen Kveller.

Wearing the Star of David wasn’t about politics. To me, what happened in Charlottesville was like war. When Trump said there were good people on both sides—there are no good Nazis. There are no good Ku Klux Klan people. Don’t equivocate that shit. I think about my old man: Most of his family was murdered in Auschwitz. He was able to get out but then got drafted and went in the U.S. Army. He risked his life in Europe to defeat Nazism. A lot of men from his generation did the same thing. So when those guys see punks walking around with swastikas, how do they keep from taking a baseball bat and bashing those crypto-Nazis over the head? Those creeps are going to march through the streets of my country? Uh-uh. I was personally offended. That’s why I wore that yellow star. I had to do something, and I didn’t think speaking about it was going to be as impactful.
