The Led Zeppelin Thread
Re: The Led Zeppelin Thread
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Interesting article about Zepp's '68 appearance in Spokane, reputedly the first live bootleg of the band: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/d ... ane-50-ye/

Re: The Led Zeppelin Thread
Hey, does anyone have a rip of the original CD pressing of Led Zeppelin I (the Barry Diament mastering). I have the CD and although it's totally clean, the first two tracks aren't ripping correctly. I've tried to search online a bit but haven't turned up anything. Really just need the first 2 tracks in FLAC if anyone has them from the correct mastering.

Never mind! Got those two tracks to finally rip accurately. The $2 I spent on the CD has been vindicated.Flex wrote: ↑03 Mar 2020, 1:45pmHey, does anyone have a rip of the original CD pressing of Led Zeppelin I (the Barry Diament mastering). Have you compared it with the newer masters?Flex wrote: ↑03 Mar 2020, 5:17pmNever mind! Got those two tracks to finally rip accurately. Re: The Led Zeppelin Thread
Just over Tidal. Honestly, the new remasters probably win it. Not brickwalled, really nicely transferred. Extremely minimal peak limiting. But I got into a bargain-bin hunt for old Zep cds so figured I'd fill out my collection with some older CD pressings for fun. The Diament masters are still pretty great, very crankable. And a fraction of the price at a used CD store if you're interested in physical product. I had the old Marino masters from the early 90s and they're not bad but probably the weakest of the three sets of digital masters.

Re: The Led Zeppelin Thread
I traded up for the newest ones a bit ago and definitely didn't regret it, but I didn't get much of a chance for comparison testing. Remasters are such a damn mixed bag.Flex wrote: ↑03 Mar 2020, 5:26pmJust over Tidal. Honestly, the new remasters probably win it. Not brickwalled, really nicely transferred. Listening to - you guessed it - Frank Stallone.
Led Zeppelin 4. Gonna read a book on 'em now. Officially no longer able to call myself a punk rocker.

Which book? I've never really read anything about them, might be interested in taking a deeper dive.Silent Majority wrote: ↑05 Mar 2020, 2:50pmGonna read a book on 'em now. Officially no longer able to call myself a punk rocker.
