OK so I have played The Blue Album all the way through. I like it, don't think it's great but enjoyable so far and this is only after one hearing my favourite track is "No One Else" followed by "Say It Ain't So. I did remember hearing "Buddy Holly" before and quite liked the humour. Obviously needs more time to bed- in but I will be investigating Weezer further. Thanks to eumaas for the tip and thanks Matedog for the reviews.

It's not a perfect album and I detailed its strengths and flaws in my review. Granted, my track by track review doesn't take into account assessing the album as a whole as well as it could, but I think it is a fairly representative grade.

If you asked me off the top of my head, i'd say an 8 or a 9. But assessing each track, with a serious attempt to eschew nostalgia, I rate it a little lower than that. 7 is really good in my book.

I tend to think of albums as having two ratings. One is vis-a-vis music in general or its genre (which would be the absolute scale), and the other is vis-a-vis the total artist output. The latter is what I mean by a relative scale. For example, GEER rates as 10 on the relative scale, but would not rate a 10 on the absolute scale as there are albums I think are superior.

Yeah I guess so. I meant I kept to the "relative Weezer scale" thing earlier because I was referring to the relation of ratings of the albums. Basically I think the first two albums are significantly better than the last, jesus, five. But yeah, that's not an absolute scale. A relative scale would be a lot harder when doing a song by song comparison as well.
