Finally, this thread is about music I like. I agree with everything above.

Although I still prefer the third album.
I'm jumping in on this love fest. I like me some European Son too.

I think Gutter's suggestion will be my next album purchase.
*Edit* I was thinking Black Angel's Death Song.
Ah, the Dylanesque one.
Funny how that works out. I have passed through JWH once with mixed reactions. Much further inspection is needed.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Oddly, though I love Cale, I think I prefer the softer VU songs on the whole.

I like the third first, the first second, and the second and fourth are split. I like the best parts of the second better than the best of the fourth (indeed better than most of the first), but the worst of the second I skip more than most of the fourth, though I listen to the fourth the least.

:shifty:
Wow, as convoluted as that was, that's exactly my view!
Careful reading of my posts will realize that though I am convoluted and occasionally illogical, I am always internally consistent and making at least a tangential reference to the topic at hand. Because that's how I might roll, were I cylindrical.

Been listening to The Quine Tapes for the first go round. Magnificent and an exceptionally worthy addition to any live VU one might have.

WL/WH is my favorite album. Then, tied between first and third with Loaded bringing up the rear (but it's all clustered together closely, love all those albums). The, uh, fifth album doesn't do it for me. Not the way Cut the Crap does. The other posthumous stuff is all fine.

For posthumous stuff, Songs For Drella is wicked good.

"A Dream" really fucks me up.

Yeah, a Lynchian nightmare for sure.

I liked it a lot more than a thought it would. I always wince at the line in "Work" that goes "Andy was a Catholic / the ethic ran thru his bones." Okay, is that an inversion of the Protestant work ethic or a fuck up?

Yeah, that's confusing to wrap one's head around. Lou has always had a way of enthralling me with a verse and then making me cringe with the next one. Part of his charm, I guess.

Lou's a horrible "poet."

Yeah, I always thought it weird that he's dubbed NYC's poet laureate. Much of his lyrical work would never see the printed page outside of the rock 'n' roll context. Still he's an unmistakable voice by any measure, for better or worse.

Addendum: Listening to the Quine Tapes which has 3 live versions of Sister Ray. It's gonna take a while to expunge that "suckin' on my ding-dong" line from my wretched skull.
