Townes Van Zandt.

I really like his self-titled (especially Waiting Around to Die) but there's no way that's a definitive insight into his artistic capabilities. What else should I have? Is the live stuff good?

Live stuff is good. Try Live at the No Quarter. All of his albums have good songs. The guy was fantastically talented but also messed up. Check out the documentary about him. It is heartbreaking

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
