I think I've mentioned this here before, but I had a Columbia record house account when I was first getting into music - it was all CDs by then, pretty much. I know traditionally the scam was that they get you with the 15 CDs for a penny thing, and then you're obligated to buy a bunch of CDs at full price, but at least by the time I joined you could game the system by buying heavily discounted box sets which then let you accrue additional free or discounted (I can't remember) single CDs. They didn't have, like, minor threat or whatever but it helped start me out on jazz CDs and 90s alternative type stuff and some classic rock. Some forgettable albums here and there, but since I was still getting into music the ability to explore wasn't bad.

And that's how you got that Audioslave CD

The only redeeming aspect of Audioslave is the guitar solo in that first ballad they had.

I generally think their ballads held up better - Like a Stone (I think what you are referring to), I Am the Highway, Getaway Car. Of their rockers, Original Fire was probably my fav though a bit underappreciated since they had basically broken up when that last album came out.

I hadn't thought about this in forever and I was surprised how uh, I guess charming it still is. I lol'd at the "cop in San Diego" line. But also, from a musical standpoint, holy hell does Cher sing the hell out of this. I played the original S&C version after and it really pales in comparison.
