Perhaps but I think those seeds were probably planted much earlier, Vermont has just in some ways been fertile ground for it to really grow.

I'm sure I've mentioned how I often unintentionally alienate people that I meet. It never fails, something like "Oh you're from Vermont, I love Phish" or something like that and I instinctively say something like "I fucking hate Phish" which is usually followed by some awkward silence.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑01 May 2017, 8:43pmTell me, do you have an opinion about Phish?revbob wrote: ↑01 May 2017, 8:35pmPerhaps but I think those seeds were probably planted much earlier, Vermont has just in some ways been fertile ground for it to really grow.

My response to you would be something along the lines of "oh man, I've been dying to do a beer pilgrimage to rural Vermont. It would be epic!"revbob wrote: ↑01 May 2017, 9:11pmI'm sure I've mentioned how I often unintentionally alienate people that I meet. Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Some of their hits have held up. Generally the ones with less rap. Like 311.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 May 2017, 6:57pmLookin' at you, Hoy!

I just heard Semisonic's "Closing Time" for the first time in well over a decade. For the first thirty seconds or so, I'm thinking that maybe it's not that bad after all. And then, like a switch being flicked, I just got irritated as fuck and turned it off.

It also means that the shithole bar in the expensive part of town that I hear it at has stopped service.

Great song. Overplayed, sure. But a great song. Don't get it twisted.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑22 Jun 2017, 1:53pmI just heard Semisonic's "Closing Time" for the first time in well over a decade. And also the douchebros in said bar are singing along to it as a reminder of what a shithole crowd you're surrounded by in that shithole place.Silent Majority wrote: ↑22 Jun 2017, 2:41pmIt also means that the shithole bar in the expensive part of town that I hear it at has stopped service.

Re: Hey Flex (All Encompassing 90's Glorification)
As I said, it'd been a long time since I'd heard it—guess who doesn't go to bars?!—so overplay didn't affect my reaction. It's just offensively generic of its time, and its time wasn't all that appealing the first time around.matedog wrote: ↑22 Jun 2017, 4:03pmGreat song. Overplayed, sure. But a great song. Re: Hey Flex (All Encompassing 90's Glorification)
From what I understand, the guy who wrote it came out and said it wasn't about closing time at a bar, but his impending fatherhood. Which makes it all the more worse as he implies that this banal song has a deep meaning. Also, what, sex is over after the wife has a baby?Rat Patrol wrote: ↑22 Jun 2017, 4:57pmAnd also the douchebros in said bar are singing along to it as a reminder of what a shithole crowd you're surrounded by in that shithole place.Silent Majority wrote: ↑22 Jun 2017, 2:41pmIt also means that the shithole bar in the expensive part of town that I hear it at has stopped service.
