I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Ahh shit, been getting back deep into the blues. Old pre-war shit and the delta blues revival stuff that Fat Possum was digging up for years. I think the first blues CD I ever owned may have been R.L. Burnside's Mr. Wizard. This track is still a fuckin' banger after all these years:
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

Re: I can't stand the blues
I can appreciate it and accept it as an art form, but I still don't like blues or jazz. Speaks nothing to me. Now reggae is a different story, I've been hooked on Reggae since I first saw the movie poster to The Harder They Come, let alone the movie. Reggae speaks volumes to me and I can relate. It is the healing music, the sufferer's music.

Re: I can't stand the blues
One thing I miss about Maj and Kaleb's podcast from like 10 years ago was Kaleb occasionally mentioning old blues tracks that I ended up really enjoying:
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I like the blues, both old style delta and white man variants, though not particularly knowledgeable about it. Nice to have thread resurrected, some good tracks posted and even one or two mentions for the truly awesome Rory Gallagher. Love it.

Wolt cleared up this topic several times as seen aboveWolter wrote: ↑27 Mar 2009, 9:24pmYeah, but technically Clapton is "blues mixed with shit."Heston wrote:Well, there is exceptions, I must admit. But it's usually "blues mixed with something" that I like. AC/DC a pretty decent shout imo. A lot of the focus understandably on Angus, but for me the key was always that tight blues based rhythm section. And Bon could sing the blues proper when he wanted to, Brian maybe not so much.

Re: I can't stand the blues
Yeah, some really great electric blues rock tunes on those early LPs. I think if you just know the radio hits, you get surprised at how bluesy the deeper catalog really is.Low Down Low wrote: ↑22 Mar 2024, 6:03pmAC/DC a pretty decent shout imo. Really, since Gira started up Swans again, they've been doing blues (often channeling the Doors) (play "A Little God in My Hands" as an example).

Re: I can't stand the blues
Somebody officially remixed a lot of Burnsides tracks into , at least 2 album, "A Bothered Mind" and "Come on In". Worth checking out if you're into that thingMarky Dread wrote: ↑22 Mar 2024, 2:27pmFucking great Flex.Flex wrote: ↑22 Mar 2024, 1:37amAhh shit, been getting back deep into the blues.
