That's soooo last summer.

I really don't understand blues improvisation. The bulk seems to be lick-based. Generally the uptempo numbers in straight ahead jazz will feature some licks playing, but not the majority--which seems to be the case in the blues.

Is a shotgun blast to the face an alternate option?

Me too, I'm not a huge fan but the last single was great.

God this is a debate I'd never thought I'd participate in, but although I enjoy Vampire Weekend's music, the live clips I've seen is merely them replicating their studio sound which is an impressive feat no doubt. But in terms of a live setting that interests me a bit less. I might rather see Clapton but I'm not particularly opinionated either way.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I'd see Clapton but only if he was being tortured on a medieval rack.

I'd see Clapton but only if he was being tortured on a medieval rack by the mortified soul of his own dead kid he used in as underwhelming fashion as possible as means-to-end to get a soundtrack and Unplugged gig.

I'm uncomfortable accusing EC of exploiting his kid's death for a song. Other artists write songs about horrible personal tragedies, some of those songs are good and others suck. I dunno if I like going down the road of judging the extent another person's grief is genuine or feigned and whether they're dealing with their grief in an appropriate way or not (whether it be by writing a song or whatever).

Unless there's some terrible interview with him where he explains that he wrote the song as a cash-in or something, in which case I take it all back. I profess a lot of "unknown unknowns" on this one.

The song still sucked, tho.

I would tend to agree with you if he had donated the profits to charity, but he didn't do that.
