They just don't run without fuel. That song weren't bad at all.
We reach the parts other combos cannot reach
We beach the beachheads other armies cannot beach
We speak the tongues other mouths cannot speak

There first two singles from 1977 are great. The album from 1978 on CBS is pop/rock/r'nb. Never matched the aggression of the two Step-Forward singles.
Peel Sessions are good 'uns too.

Interesting. I was expecting more of a Class of '77 angry noisefest, but that's got some pretty keen pop sensibility and sense of humor to it. Can definitely hear from the rockabilly angle why Joe loosely acquaintenced with Nick in the years before his Clash II audition...this sounds like the kind of music Joe dug in those days.

One of the better DIY Youtube graft-on music vids, I might add. Usually they're hella-lame but that the clips were well-matched to the song's sarcasm.

Nick Sheppard played with them, innit?
The greatest legacy he leaves is that he made a generation of people think for themselves. He didnt quite manage to change the world but he changed the way people looked at it. It's a sad day - but what a life

It's a great song, would love to hear a full album of songs like that.

Yes Evair, Nick was in the band.

Yep. That's his twangy low-register guitar throughout. Much rougher sound--he was only like 17 or 18 at the time--but you can sort of hear his embryonic signature sound from Clash II start to develop in there in the more-precise/less-sloppy parts he plays.

Cheers, you've got some great stuff on there.

Also: the Ruts' tracks are AMAZING. Laxman was awesome enough to send me a CD of the Peel stuff some years ago -- Demolition Dancing and Secret Soldiers are personal faves.
