I'd love them more if they stopped around the same time that the Beatles did. Mod Who hauls ass; Pete striving to be a serious artist not so much.

Weirdly, Hookworm and I are not in huge agreement about much music, but our taste in the Who is pretty much identical.

I think Tommy's a little overrated.

I mean, it's good. It has some great tracks indeed, I love Go To The Mirror for example. But I don't see how it got so popular.

Late 60s, early 70s, rock got it into its collective head that it should be regarded as high brow art. Hence, tons of concept albums and prog rock. Tommy's among the better of that pursuit, but that's not saying a whole lot.

My thoughts on the music of Quadrophenia are somewhat the same. The storyline is genius and the movie is probably the best thing ever....but the music is way too much. They needed a bloody orchestra for that shit! 5:15's a good song though.

I'm iffier on Quad. A few good songs, but overdone, overwrought. The movie never did much for me either. Tommy onwards, I can only listen to the singles. Squeezebox is damn fun, tho—a dumb dirty joke but fun.

Yeah, that's probably as far as I'd go. Maybe it'd mean more if I was of that age and time, but I'm not. That it doesn't transcend that barrier, as I imagine Pete always strives for, is its weak spot.
