Also, the joke was that they were dinosaurs...They were in their mid 40s!Wolter wrote: ↑15 Sep 2023, 7:49pmI admit I’m mainly a sixties singles fan, but man, Steel Wheels is such a weird cultural thing. Despite the Stones only have been “broken up” a few years, people were so desperate for them to have a Triumphant Return that they managed to fool themselves into thinking it was great, even though it’s basically store brand Rolling Stones.

I really dig Keith's solo records, especially Main Offender.

I thought Illusion from Crosseyed Heart was a great song, a duet by Keith and Norah Jones. Also Robbed Blind from the same lp.Silent Majority wrote: ↑17 Sep 2023, 1:03pmI really dig Keith's solo records, especially Main Offender.

Yes, a much better rock n roll album than many of the Stones' recent ones.Telecaster wrote: ↑19 Sep 2023, 11:40amI thought Illusion from Crosseyed Heart was a great song, a duet by Keith and Norah Jones. I like Tumbling Dice but that lead vocal is waaaay too low in the mix, to the point it angers me a little.WestwayKid wrote: ↑16 Sep 2023, 5:45pmIt's top-3 for me.tepista wrote: ↑15 Sep 2023, 7:33pmIf I had to pick a #1 Stones song, that would be itWestwayKid wrote: ↑15 Sep 2023, 11:26amTumbling Dice has some of Keith's best rhythm work. There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

But they're terrible live. I bought "Love You Live" back in the day and threw it in the bin a few weeks later.Silent Majority wrote: ↑19 Sep 2023, 2:15pmGet a live version, Mick will holler all over that shit.Heston wrote: ↑19 Sep 2023, 12:58pmI like Tumbling Dice but that lead vocal is waaaay too low in the mix, to the point it angers me a little.WestwayKid wrote: ↑16 Sep 2023, 5:45pmIt's top-3 for me.tepista wrote: ↑15 Sep 2023, 7:33pmIf I had to pick a #1 Stones song, that would be itWestwayKid wrote: ↑15 Sep 2023, 11:26amTumbling Dice has some of Keith's best rhythm work. Well, they're energetic, you have to give then that.Heston wrote: ↑19 Sep 2023, 2:34pmBut they're terrible live. I bought "Love You Live" back in the day and threw it in the bin a few weeks later.Silent Majority wrote: ↑19 Sep 2023, 2:15pmGet a live version, Mick will holler all over that shit.

I do appreciate their loose (or sloppy) live stuff. At least the club shows like Mocambo. Tumbling Dice is real fun and loose as well, though it lacks those great backing vocals, so I could see that as being a legit point of contention.Silent Majority wrote: ↑19 Sep 2023, 2:59pmWell, they're energetic, you have to give then that.Heston wrote: ↑19 Sep 2023, 2:34pmBut they're terrible live. Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
