Their first 3-4 albums are good. Not spectacular, but enjoyable. I don't think it's far from what guys like Springsteen were doing - polished up bar band music. The only thing I'll say about Dire Straits is that unlike many "very white bands" out there - they swing pretty hard.

Yep - but I don't think I'd like it if it was the same words/melody over a guitar and bass.... it's the piano riff that does it for me
