Well, the good thing about music is, everyone has their likes and dislikes. In 1963, the way the world was, the way society was, She Loves You blew it all apart with its perfect performance of a perfect song. Plus it blows away any Motown recording ever made and its not even close. But the main thing is, its all music and we all can pick and choose what we like and its all good.Marky Dread wrote: ↑10 May 2023, 3:03amHmmmm whilst "She Loves You" wasn't just knocked out as the band led people to believe it's hardly "quite possibly the very best recording anywhere by anyone". Yes it's catchy and easy to sing but so is the DC5 number.
There's a wealth of Motown/Stax songs that could blow this song out of the water with ease.

As a Manchester United fan I don't agree it's better than Motown or that awful video.weller259 wrote: ↑10 May 2023, 1:34pmWell, the good thing about music is, everyone has their likes and dislikes. Yeah, I'm also going to push back on the notion that it blows away any Motown recording ever made.Marky Dread wrote: ↑10 May 2023, 2:18pmAs a Manchester United fan I don't agree it's better than Motown or that awful video.weller259 wrote: ↑10 May 2023, 1:34pmWell, the good thing about music is, everyone has their likes and dislikes. Case in point. This is one of the most sublime singles/recordings ever made:
Smokey co-wrote, sang lead, and produced this track.

Exactly a brilliant tune and an amazing voice. Just one of many Motown tracks that betters "She Loves You". The Beatles of course knew this and the proof is in the number of covers on their early albums.WestwayKid wrote: ↑10 May 2023, 2:22pmCase in point. Re: DC5 vs. The Beatles
we can disagree and all that, it all comes down to personal taste anyway. For me, there's She Loves You and then there's everything else. Its all good though. I will say that Berry Gordy only wishes he had a record like She Loves You, but he never did, regardless of how good many of the Motown records are. Again, just a personal preference. I love Motown, the Supremes were incredible, as was Smokey, no question. I'm certainly not slamming Motown, not by any stretch.
Its all good.
As for that video, being a fan of the football teams where the fans all sang the song is of no consequence as to the song's popularity or its impact on popular culture or whether the song is good or not, just sayin'.

And one more thing. The Beatles are THE most successful musical act ever. If you know of a stadium packed with all sorts of people who sang a Smokey Robinson song, i'd love to see it.

It's all good for your preference and I totally accept that. I can't and would never agree that The Beatles harmonies come close to the perfection of some of those Motown artists though. I do think "She Loves You" is a FABulous song.weller259 wrote: ↑10 May 2023, 2:54pmwe can disagree and all that, it all comes down to personal taste anyway.
