Cool! Thanks Marky.

I sure wish James had gotten to remix this from the multi-tracks. He and the late Ed Charney did a fantastic job on Kill City. Much better than Iggy’s iffy remix job on this album, though the vinyl version of that is much better than the practically unlistenable CD they released. Good choice to start with the Bowie mix for your reworking. Oh, and the myth of Raw Power recording the whole band on one track is not true. Bowie and Iggy may have mixed the album in LA from stems, but the multi-tracks are a standard for the era professional recording.
The only track which appears to be mixed with everything straight down the middle of the mix is "Search and Destroy". The drums were forced so far back on that track they sounded weak. The whole of the original mix did suffer from sounding thin with poor separation.

Iggy's mix was a messy affair with virtually every fader pushed up into the red to increase the volume and that lost all nuances and made for an over distorted sound.

Agree on "Kill City" that sounds really good.
Interesting comment about Search and Destroy. That is the only mix on the original album that isn’t from the Bowie mix session at United Western. Bowie’s mix of the song is on the 3CD Raw Power deluxe set and called the “Embassy” mix because it was released once on that CBS subsidiary label. It was decided in 1973 to use the mix Iggy brought from Whitfield Street for S&D.

That makes total sense. It's clearly different from the others. That track took a lot more work to bring up the drums and mix the track into a decent stereo mix.

Welcome mate. Iggy's mix is a travesty sadly.

It sure is, I don't know how any label execs could have approved that. It was so bad they brought back the original mix

I've amended the artwork as it had Dave Alexander on it and not as TeddyB pointed out James Williamson. I was aware of this but I couldn't locate my Mick Rock Stooges book. However I've found it so used a more appropriate picture.

Also amended the tracklisting to include Bowie's mix of "Search and Destroy". Which TeddyB kindly gave me. Though I've remixed it.

Marky cheers for this! This is how the record could/should sound...send it to Mr Iguana and demand a go at the master tapes! Alternatively let's find a pressing plant with dubious morals and get it pressed!

I'm finally back in front of a computer with some downloading time, so grabbing this. Cheers, Marky! I'm stoked. An album that's been with me through a lot of my life, maybe it'll finally sound just right.
