Did we ever do the Stones? I'll have a go, but starting with Satanic Majesties - as trying to figure in the UK versus US nonsense muddies the waters too much for me.

I think Sticky and Exile are so, so close. Same with Let It Bleed and Beggar's for 3 & 4.

If I was going back a little further - I'd say Aftermath slots in just ahead of Some Girls, Between the Buttons just in front of Goat Head's Soup.

Blue and Lonesome is pretty striking how good it is for how late it is in their career. A covers album, sure, but way more inspired than I had expected. I give Sticky a slight edge over Exile as well. Probably same for Bleed and Beggars. I might rank Black and Blue a little higher since I really dig the deep cuts on that one.

I think I typically place Goat's Head higher than many, but I really like that LP. It suffers critically because it follows a run of 4 incredible albums. That said, it's good. I think it's a farewell to the first golden age, as there is a sense of melancholy and reflection not heard before. It's Only Rock 'n' Roll ushered in the age of the big business Stones that carries on through today, but there was still an innocence on Goat's Head, it had one foot in the past and there is a wistful goodbye to the days of Andrew, Decca, Brian, Ruby Tuesday, and so on.

Wouldn't say I'm at all familiar with their output but i did buy Flesh & Blood upon its release and played it to death for some time. Some fine tracks on it, couple of really great ones.

The singles off it are top class, but I'd say the album was probably a bit commercial for fans of their earlier more avant garde stuff.

Yeah I agree. Still can't get my head around why that track sounds so weak compared to the single.

Yeah I agree. Still can't get my head around why that track sounds so weak compared to the single.

I remember seeing the video and loving the song immediately. Couldn't acquire the proper single—shit was hard living out on the tundra, man—but I did get the second Peel Sessions ep with that on it. And I was crestfallen. I think any chance at a happy life died then and there.
