Not on my watch damnit. I expect a review from you on my desk by tomorrow morning young man!!!!!
The Lee Harveys - 18 Again. A band Ive been meaning to check out for a while. The singer reminds me of Steve Drewett from the Neurotics. Straight aheahd melodic punk out of Dublin.
The Jackets - Sweedish garage punk what's not to like.
Glitoris - Warriors, Australian female punk band not taking any shit.
Re: A Packet of Threes (New, New Challenge Thread)
Hello,
Lee Harveys - I agree with the others, these guys are really good; straight ahead banging sound with just enough frantic-ness
The Jackets - good buzzy, reverb guitar sound
Glitoris - good beat, good start; I thought a big crunchy guitar would kick in but ended u not missing that at all; this was really good; I don't know what Doc was thinking
Lee Harveys and Glitoris stand out as really strong - I'll check out more from each. The Jackets are in a long line of really good Swedish punk-ish bands.
All three good - all three new! Thanks!
I'll wait for everyone to finish up their reviews and then I'll post a packet.

A common refrain these days. Its my understanding Doc only has time for smooth jazz these days.gkbill wrote: ↑31 Oct 2022, 12:45pmHello,

Lee Harveys - I don't know if I can put my finger on it but there's something really exciting when a singer has urgency or you feel they're pushing themselves to the limit. You don't get it in all genres so I guess it's why I'm drawn to this type of music. If this song had a different singer, or even just a different vocal delivery I could probably take or leave it but it's definitely elevated the way it is.
The Jackets - I immediately like the Clockwork Orange make-up and like gkbill said, the fuzzy, reverby guitar is great. All the elements are there but it screams 'album track' to me - not necessarily a bad thing
Glitoris. What a name and what a song! And a "Warriors" film chorus too. I love the spiky guitars. My only complaint is that it fades out too soon. When I really like a song, I tend to write short sentences.
Nice one!

Hello,
This is probably one of the strongest sets I've posted.
Martha - Please Don't Take me Back: really good guitar rock/pop quirky video aside; kind of jangley, kind of buzzy guitar
Pile - Loops: kind of experimental rock-ish but very driving
Single Mothers - Enough for You: kind of hard/heavy guitar rock with some effects

Martha - Please Don't Take me Back - I liked this one a lot. Has a good feel to it.
Pile - Loop - This wasn't a bad song but it sounds kinda like a dark dirge to me and the music never "brightened" up. Not bad, just not my thing sonically.
Single Mothers - Enough for You - I liked this one too.
All new to me, a nice set. Thank you!

From what I see there's still a little hope

Re: A Packet of Threes (New, New Challenge Thread)
Martha - I really like the droney guitar work but it'll definitely take a few listens for the voice to really become less annoying. The song is all business: verse / chorus / verse /chorus / chorus
Pile - there's something unsettling about this and it makes me want to put it on repeat. I think it's the drums that make it sound almost tiring to listen to. Really interesting song though. I was trying to decipher the words and it wasn't easy but strangely rewarding.
Single Mothers - I keep going back and forth between this and Pile being my top pick - I think it's just about even though. Just when I think it's Pile, this bassline keeps coming back into my head
Great choices

Martha - Please Don't Take me Back -
Almost lost me on the intro. I can be an impatient bastard. When the music finally kicked in I was on board. The vox on this take some getting used to though.
Pile - Loop : That's how you start a song. Solid stuff, me like.
Single Mothers - Enough for You : Another new one for me, all three are. I like the guitar riff, good song.
Well done gkbill.
Weller, Oliver, random slacker care to take a turn?

How about a diet packet? I've played the first one a lot... second one works better as part of the album IMO but as a standalone, the vitriol is impressive.
"Armani Caesar / Survival of the Littest" -
"Meryl Streek / False Apologies"

"Armani Caesar / Survival of the Littest" -
Im not usualy too into laid back music. This isnt bad but definitely not up my alley.
"Meryl Streek / False Apologies"
I was digging this and will definitely seek out more.
Thanks Oliver. Two new ones and 2 is better than none in this thread.
Re: A Packet of Threes (New, New Challenge Thread)
Hello,
Armani Caesar - musically interesting; I like that bass kind of cool rhythm; the vocals aren't for me; rapping with this attitude too often strikes me as posing
Meryl Streek - again, the music is good; I understand his anger but shouting in angry bouts doesn't fit into my musical taste; he needs to express his emotions but, again, not for me
2 new to me - I wish Meryl Streek had a bit more nuance to the vocals. Thanks, Oliver!

Nice!
I heard of them via Bob Vylan who was previously posted here (or the previous incarnation of it) - they're on the same label.
