In order to appreciate the other members of Wire, I suggest listening to some Jerry's Kids. Because shut up I'm not the one on trial here! is why.

You probably don't realize this but I was the original singer of Jerry's Kids and gave them their name. I got the sack when I was away on vacation. Bonus factoid- I originally came with "Jerry's Kids" for the band that would evolve into Gang Green because their first gig was at a party for the, um, mentally challenged at the Braintree Drive-In. I was also supposed to be the guitarist for DYS (my JK sacking inspired me to switch to guitar) but things blew up bad at home and I had to turn it down.

Well, I dunno if I really would have fit into the scene there at the time but maybe you can take some pride in being involved with the groundwork of making some music which was pretty helpful in getting at least this guy - only punk in town and missing New England - through some of the tougher moments of adolescence.

Hardly. I didn't take the sacking bad, I went from being their singer to being their roadie/entourage. Looking back I think the band lost when Bryan quit. They were the East Coast Germs- tons of humor and catchy riffs. They had a ton of great songs around the time of TIBNLA that were never recorded but were really great. Then they turned into Discharge and though I still went to their gigs and such, it lost a lot of the context. The first 6 months or so of Boston Hardcore were the golden age, IMO. Then it got to be a macho asshole quasi-Nazi scene, especially around 84 when all the street kids came in.

These New Puritans are much better at doing Wire these days than Wire (live performances excepted). "Beat Pyramid" is still my favourite new album of '08. Which, again, isn't to say that "Object 47" is a bad album. Not by any means. Just compared to pretty much anything else in their catalogue, it doesn't really stand out well. Still, R & B 3 is growing on me more and more, so I imagine in another six months I'll appreciate O47 better.

I've been listening to O47 on my way to and from work -- and during the times I manage to escape every couple of hours -- and it's really grown on me. Not that I didn't already like it, but it's a grower fer sure... I find it a lot more textured and dynamic than Send, which is a good thing. For me, anyways.

I have; I was the one who uploaded it to the oo-toob. Rivals PiL on American Bandstand for a WTF incongruity between band and host. Graham's Eurotrash ponytail is a visual lowpoint, too. As I understand it, in 2002 the band often showed it on a giant screen before coming on.
