Those first 3 albums are so difficult to seperate, all pretty damn fantastic, but if pushed I'd probably opt for Go For It by a whisker. Safe as Houses might also be my favourite song but thats a close run thing too.
I'd throw Now Then in as well. All great. It was after the reunion that things got patchy.
Good album, right enough. More than worth the price of admission.
Hey you good for nothing I do the puns 'round 'ere. :approve:
If it wasnt so early there's no way you'd have missed "Listen, good for nothing..." for the twofer. Or maybe it was too easy ;)

That’s touch and go.

Low Down Low you really picking Go For It over IM and Nobody’s Heroes?
"Go For It" is my fave SLF album and contains my fave tune of theirs "Piccadilly Circus".
I’m surprised.
I get why people like it so much as musically the band had improved and expanded but personally I was so grateful for them when IM was released I can’t get past it.
Well yeah me choosing GFI as my fave doesn't mean I love IM and NH any less. I love all of the first 4 albums.
Yeah and for me, I'd be fairly sure Go For It was first slf album i encountered so i think that influences my preference a little bit. Inflammable is second and NH third but we're talking about minute differences here.

Thats an interesting point. While there are obviously some monster debut albums, and Inflammable fits snugly into that bracket, of all the bands i love, i can think of very few cases where debut would be my favourite album. In fact, off top of my head none, but given time, I'm sure i could come up with a couple.

Yeah, i did anyway, saw em live a couple of times and they were excellent. But wouldnt say i was a big fan or anything, debut is really only album I'm familiar with.

Cranberries and Proclaimers are two bands that would fit the bill for me, but doubt either would have big followings on here.

Of those definitely The Specials. Dont really know enough about most of em. My DMR pecking order would be Too Rye Ay, DSMD, SFTYSR. True Dexys fans would scoff at me for that, but what can you do?

As a further act of sacrilege, i would have to list TLONF as my favourite Madness album!

Can’t agree about Dexy’s as SFTYSR is so perfect but on another day Liberty could be my favourite Madness album.

Surprised you rate Liberty that highly, but it is definitely up there with top 10 or 15 best albums I've heard in the last 10/15 years. Love it.

Again, a bit like SLF, too rye ay was first dexys album i engaged with and it blew me away. And i never even really liked COE that much. Rowland is just outrageous on DSMD. Debut is great too, dealing with small margins again here.

Apologies to sidetrack the above discussion, but look what I found. I said in another thread 1999 was a great year!

My mates and I were huge Pistols and first wave punk fans but we were just too young to be part of it. The Pistols imploded and lot of the other bands we liked were moving on. Then along came SLF and suddenly we had our punk band that we felt part of. We bought IM on release we went to see them live. You can’t beat those feelings.
