Jello Biafra - Butler University, 1987

Post by Dr. Medulla »

This video of Jello doing his talky talk thing on a college campus in 1987 showed up on Dime a Dozen today, so I dl'd and then converted to m4v. I haven't watched it yet, so I can't speak to the contents. It's only 75 mins or so, tho, which means we're probably missing 80% of the talk.

I keep considering listening and then ponder whether it will annoy the hell out of me. I was a Dead Kennedy’s disciple at age fifteen and don’t know if I want to go back there, 1989 listening to No More Cocoons in the dark on my Walkman.

It's primarily No More Cocoons material, with a few comments related to the student newspaper. The two most striking things are how skinny he was and how painfully dated the references sound. It's a curiosity piece, maybe a bit of nostalgia.

I don't know what Jello's lifestyle is but he sure does look well fed.

I'd think that after all these years he's achieved a stable and fairly comfortable income.

I believe he bought a house in the 80s in San Fran so he's automatically wealthy from that.

Get him!!!!

But seriously unless you sell that house in San Francisco it is just costing you although I suppose not paying SF area rents would be a win.

For anyone interested, Jello released an updates "Message From Our Sponsor" track on Bandcamp. If you like it, of course, I recommend tossing him a buck for the track but here it is for anyone who'd like to sample it (good for 7 days): https://send.firefox.com/download/16b5b ... YQGAYacleQ

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

Can't remember if posted this here ever (or anyone else), it's Jello Biafra and Eugene Chadbourne on a John Cage tribute album. For Witch Trials fans:

Yup, you did share that before, leading me to buy a copy of the album.

I'm listening to it again for the first time in a bit. Just given my interests, that's the standout track but it's all really good stuff. Real weird little disc.

Yeah, it's a neat project. Upper-end tribute album.

Oh that’s interesting. Annoyed I didn’t have that in college when I was doing weird avant- theatre pieces to annoy the Theatre Kids who really just wanted to sing songs from Rent.
