I haven't really listened to a lot of his newer stuff outside the record he did with Leon Russell (which I quite like), but his output from the aughts is relatively well regarded, I think. It's the 80s and 90s that really did him in. I know his 90s era career led me totally (and unfairly) write him off for a long, long time.Marky Dread wrote: ↑18 Jan 2019, 1:41pmI recently heard the 2006 album "The Captain and The Kid" which picks up from "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" and proves to me at least that Elton hasn't completely lost the plot.

Got as far as Here and Now on my EJ listening haunt and been a fun ride with some previously unfamiliar gems unlocked for me. Both live albums will definitely get repeat listens. Tumbleweed Connection probably the pick of the studio bunch though I do want to give Madman another spin. Both versions of the title song are excellent but I think the album track shades it for me ever so marginally.

One of his classic tracks I’d forgotten and hadn’t heard in years. Must say the lyrics kind of leaped out at me, seems a strange topic for Taupin to be writing about and EJ to be singing. Good tune though.

"Song For Guy" came on the radio the other day, and fuck me, I never knew that was Elton John. I'd heard the piece loads of times on soundtracks etc, but never knew it was him. A really nice piece of music.

It is a moving tribute. A motorcycle courier killed in a crash while working for Elton.

Always assumed he was singing “Life is a definite thing” until some geezer playing it on the radio put me right recently. I love this track and other EJ sad ones like Sorry Seems to be and Someone Saved my life tonight. Three poignantly great songs I think.

Can we rename the thread "SRP Corner?"

Addendum: I’d also add Empty Garden to that list. Nice tribute to Lennon and one of the last EJ songs I really liked before losing interest. I do live sad songs (though ironically not actually the song of that name very much at all!)

Even more so considering my misheard lyric I thought he was singing "I like girls".Low Down Low wrote: ↑23 Jan 2019, 6:28pmOne of his classic tracks I’d forgotten and hadn’t heard in years.
