I didn't know Turn It On Again was in the shame bin, I assumed most people loved it.

This is probably the most uncool song I really love...

My mate's mercilessly take the piss out of me for it but I don't care.
There are some people around here who don't appreciate Phil Collins...
I’m not a fan however nor do I hate Phil Collins (never understood where the hate comes from). Turn It On Again is probably one one of his best.
The hate is derived from his awfulness.

When we've done this dark shame question, this has been my answer. Or at least is one of the more egregious answers. No justification for liking it because it is undeniably awful. Yet, I do.

Live and Sum 41 love thread? The Dizzle is on board.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Phil is a strange one because I despise most of his output, especially those patronising piano ballads he did in the nineties. But he does have some absolute corkers in his arsenal, Turn It On Again, Follow You Follow Me, Easy Lover, That's All and Mama. I'll not mention is definitive cover of You Can't Hurry Love.

Bet that is in your top 3 with Mambo #5 and Bob The Builder
I like both of those.
I will raise you Toto Africa :disshame:
In mitigation Your Honour it is only because it is linked to a very hot summer in 83 (not talking about the weather).
It's a great song.

I...I...think I don't hate the band Live as much as I used to. I mean, I know intellectually that they are terrible. But, dare I say, they have some tasty tunes?
I hate them like the sun. You’re covered.

Yup. Hard to excuse him for stuff like Another Day in Paradise...but he's got some really solid songs in his catalog.

I vividly recall when ...But Seriously came out in 1989. You couldn't drive to the gas station without hearing one of the singles on the radio. I think most US stations were required to play Another Day in Paradise every hour. That seems to be about the time that it really started to become cool to not like Phil Collins and yes - a lot of it is probably his fault for trading in the rougher edges that had made him interesting for 100% slick, over-produced MOR schlock.

When I read defenses of Phil Collins, I start wondering whether we gave up on punk Stalinism too quickly … :shifty:

I've never heard this Scatman John song. Sounds very European.
