Duran Duran's "You're about as easy as a nuclear war" was pretty crass in an era of heightened cold war tension.
You know what I always liked that line. I thought it was like how a simple push of a button and then bang it's all gone.

It is a memorable lyric but swanning about in yachts then using a phrase like 'nuclear war' so flippantly just seems wrong.

They were but I meant swanning about in yachts in general. The video for 'Is There Something I Should Know' was a whole new line in pretentiousness.

I always thought that was the point of the whole New Romantic movement.

I think New Romanticism had died out by 1983, it was just sheer indugence for the sake of it.

Yeah but they were one of the big new romantic bands. That dressing up thing has always been huge in rock 'n' roll. The 80's had so many crimes. Club Tropicana the drinks are free..are they fuck!

I love DD - but they had some massively crap lyrics.
From start to finish "The Reflex" has to be a contender for the worst lyric as a whole.
I always cringe on hearing "why don't you use it? Try not to bruise it, buy time don't lose it"

The lyrics on that album in general feel rushed and incomplete - which I've always felt said a lot about the circumstances in which it was made. I wouldn't say I hate The Reflex...but I also don't care too much about it.

When I was quite young and not aware of popular music, this song was included in one of Weird Al's polka medleys and I was completely baffled by where it came from and what the hell it was supposed to mean.
