I think I know which one you're talking about. Hideous stuff. The kind of thing to end friendships over.
We have a resale shop affiliated with my organization, and I was in there the first time I heard it. I wanted to set fire to the place.
Every year, on first day of class, I ask students their favourite song and band. Somebody picked that this year. If nothing else, I proved that I can separate my music fan role from instructor role by saying nothing negative.
You are a better person than I. I would have thrown them out of the class. Literally. Like out the 10 story window.
I've had at least one Rush fan every time I've taught the class. My skin has thickened.
Nice to hear you can show grace under pressure.

 Have any stood out as being exceptional picks?
Exceptional pricks? Actually, I've quite liked all those Rush fans—one is writing about them this year and it seems quite promising—so it confounds the idea that artistic taste and character are connected.
Let me rephrase that - anyone choose a good song?
Whoops! Oddly, I can't locate my sheet that had everyone's choices. This group stood out from past ones for having only one hip hop fan and several who are into extreme metal. And a Ramones fan—the first time I've had someone pick an old school punk band (made me feel a little less elderly).

Being in Canada and Ontario no less this can't be that surprising can it?

As for this image dragons stuff, Ive heard the name but have no idea what they sound like and choose to remain ignorant in that regard. Is that the band with that dbag who serves as a judge on one of those judgy tv shows where people perform in front of lame celebs ?

You're right, but the fact that I just don't get Rush's appeal is something I can't get past.

Well, they are basically a hard rock band with some prog tendencies. I don't count myself as a fan but there's far far worse out there even for Canada.

"It's My Life" by Bon Jovi is definitely the worst song of all time.

Every line in the song is so cliched it could quite happily slip into an internet meme of your choice. The way they reference "Tommy and Gina" from their earlier piece of shit song is nauseating. The way they use that stupid "mouth guitar" gimmick again. The fucking full stop innate shitness about them in general. The way Jon Bon Jovi cut his hair in the mid nineties and started trying to be Bruce Springsteen. The way the fucking guitarist prances about singing those shrill over-high backing vocals. The key changes towards the end of every fucking song. The utter cunts. I bet Flex likes them.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Definitely worse bands, but Rush keep getting elevated as great. They're like Oasis before Oasis—there's much worse, but way too many think they're great.
