I'll take The Kinks and The Small Faces over The Beatles and The Stones.

This is a great track. Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake might be the most well known, but I've always preferred this LP. Songs are short, sharp, and pretty much solid from front to back.

Same here, the narrative stuff wears a bit thin on ONGF.WestwayKid wrote: ↑17 Jul 2018, 7:03amThis is a great track. Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake might be the most well known, but I've always preferred this LP. Songs are short, sharp, and pretty much solid from front to back.

It's just a fantastic album. Production is solid. Not really a dud song in the bunch (all written by the band). Playing is great. Slight tinges of psychedelia, but never over the top - yet, it isn't just an extension of their Decca work. There is a progression of sound and style.Heston wrote: ↑17 Jul 2018, 7:07amSame here, the narrative stuff wears a bit thin on ONGF.WestwayKid wrote: ↑17 Jul 2018, 7:03amThis is a great track. Totally agree. At the moment I'm really digging the mono version of 'There Are But Four Small Faces', which is the slightly altered American version of the album. The songs are mixed a bit differently to the stereo versions and sound better for it to my ears.WestwayKid wrote: ↑17 Jul 2018, 10:40amIt's just a fantastic album. Production is solid. I grabbed this a few years ago for about 12 bucks. A real bargain. Sound is great. Stereo and mono version of all songs (including those that made up the American version. Highly recommended.

I also agree on the sound of the mono mixes. Nice and punchy.WestwayKid wrote: ↑17 Jul 2018, 2:06pmHeston wrote: ↑17 Jul 2018, 11:50amTotally agree. Just wanted to give a shout out to Heston for starting this thread. Small Faces have always been one of the bands I've really liked, but this thread has got me really diving into their catalog and discovering just how fantastic they were.

A Small Faces observation: They had the best drum sound of all the 60s bands.
