I was too young to be a Robyn Hitchcock fan (or to even know who Hitchcock was) - but my older cousin had played the song for my sisters and me because even a couple of kids could appreciate the pure silliness of it!

Well, by that token, the entire gag about him being the Zodiac Killer is improper. It's black humour to be sure, but it's a vehicle to emphasize what a monster he is. That he jujitsu'd it is worth acknowledging. Along with him being thrown down the deepest hole in Texas.

Yup, it is a humourless take. Of course it's a cynical and jaded tactic, but I'm capable of separating matters. Nixon going on Laugh In in '68 and delivering "Sock it to me line" was also cynical, trying to seem less of a ghoul to the hip kids, but it's still funny. *shrug*
