Cats have no respect for anything - I think that's why I like them so much.
60's schmaltz - but there are a handful of decent moments that elevate it above some of its competition. Murry did apparently have an ear for a melody and that does come through. I think I've listened to this LP once (it is not available on CD - I don't think).
Soulful Old Man Sunshine is a fantastic track. I wonder what Murry thought about Brian and Rick Henn working together? The harmonies are incredible and I think it would have been a decent fit for Sunflower - especially if it could have bumped one of Bruce's tracks!
Cheers mate.WestwayKid wrote: ↑07 Aug 2019, 10:03am60's schmaltz - but there are a handful of decent moments that elevate it above some of its competition. Agreed: don't forget "The Happy Song" and "The Plumber's Tune," by Eck Kynor -- who did some work at the Wilson home, and wound up on the record, because, well -- Murry was like that!60's schmaltz - but there are a handful of decent moments that elevate it above some of its competition. I think "I Live For The Sun" is the main reason that the band is remembered, aside from the Wilson connection. It hints of more potential that never got realized. The BBs influence is obvious, but I also hear a lot of the Association and the Mamas & The Papas, too.Soulful Old Man Sunshine is a fantastic track. Wasn't it rumored that the song was never released because Carl flubbed one of the lines - singing "Shunsine" instead of "Sunshine"? He wouldn't allow it to be released - even on comps and in fact - it did not officially appear until after his death.
"I Live For The Sun" is also a pretty darned fantastic track!
Not a huge number, but all but one of the lineup of the Exploding Hearts died in a car crash right after their debut lp was releasedWestwayKid wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 12:40pmBands with high mortality rates.
The Temptations have had 24 members since 1961 - 12 of them are dead. In their first 40 years (1961-2001) they had 14 members - 10 are dead. That's a mortality rate of 71.4%.
Of the 7 credited band members who played on the first Lynyrd Skynyrd album - 6 are dead (and only 1 - Ronnie Van Zant was killed in their 1977 plane crash).
I really like that album.Wolter wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 12:47pmNot a huge number, but all but one of the lineup of the Exploding Hearts died in a car crash right after their debut lp was releasedWestwayKid wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 12:40pmBands with high mortality rates.

Yep sad stuff for such a young band. Not my taste but a sad episode.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 1:18pmI'd never heard of them, but everyone in a British band called Viola Beach died a few years ago in a car crash.
