In this vein, this blog is a GODSEND for people who love alternate universes in music: http://albumsthatneverwere.blogspot.com/
Recreations of "lost" albums. Purists beware: the guy who does these really just uses the "lost album" concept as a jumping off point and then makes a bunch of (sometimes ahistorical) editorial decisions. The result isn't always historical fidelity, but it's usually a good listen.

I've gotten "lost" on that site before. Some pretty cool stuff.Flex wrote: ↑23 Oct 2018, 2:48pmIn this vein, this blog is a GODSEND for people who love alternate universes in music: http://albumsthatneverwere.blogspot.com/

Much is said of the great run the Stones had with Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile...but I'd say the Kinks had a similar run with Face to Face, Something Else, Village Green, and Arthur.

The Kinks had a much better run since that Rolling Stones run is massively overrated. I was thinking along similar lines as I typed it up. My thought was that as good as the Stones were - the Kinks run was just that much better and you could almost tack Lola versus Powerman on - which while it isn't as good as the albums before it - it's still really good.Wolter wrote: ↑01 Nov 2018, 9:14amThe Kinks had a much better run since that Rolling Stones run is massively overrated. "No Elvis, Beatles, or the Rolling Stones..."
This week's topic is bands/artists from the 60's and 70's (I'll also throw in the 50's) who did alright when punk came and shook up rock and roll in the 70's. Basically - they were not written off as dinosaurs and were embraced/respected by the "new wave" of young bands that washed over the world of music in 1976 and onward.
Proto-punk bands don't count.

Small Faces and the Who seemed to get off scot-free during the purge.WestwayKid wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 7:35am"No Elvis, Beatles, or the Rolling Stones..."

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Obvious answer is probably Bowie.

Depends on which Who you're talking about. Pre-Tommy Who was still respected, but post-Tommy Who (rightfully) gets lumped in with the overblown dinosaur rock.Heston wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 8:17amSmall Faces and the Who seemed to get off scot-free during the purge.WestwayKid wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 7:35am"No Elvis, Beatles, or the Rolling Stones..."

Depending on which punk scene you look at, the Velvets/Lou emerged with wider cred.
