Me: [Gathering a bag of rotten fruit and vegetables and waiting for Hoy to come in and declare Madonna's "American Pie" to be tasty]
Late 90s and beyond Madonna ain't for me.
No Hoyston here, Ray of Light and Beautiful Stranger are top 5 for me.

The one that sampled Abba was good pop.

Actively dislike those songs.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Live Aid didn’t fundamentally change anything but it helped usher in the era of the rock superstar and the mega stadium event. I think it made things more conservative. This might have happened anyway but I think Live Aid was a catalyst.
I don't agree it aided those big superstars any more than their latest hit single would. Here is the U.K. top 30 a month after Live Aid. You can see a reasonable helthy mix of acts with big superstars Bowie/Madonna/Springsteen/Prince all in the 30 as they would have been with or without Live Aid.

She claims to have been a punk back then. So not that far fetched. And a guy who looked like this would have been up many people's alley:

Gira *hated hated hated* punks. (Tho he seemed to have hated most everything and everybody until around '88 or '89. A scary angry guy back then.) It just seems like he would have seen through her obvious ambition and despised her for it.

Her tastes in men are impressively catholic.

She was pretty darned hot back in the day. I think every guy in my class (including me) had a crush on her!

In the Cyndi Lauper vs. Madonna debate, I was firmly Cyndi. Still am.
