Marky's Other uploads.

Post by Marky Dread »

Dave 202 requested Elvis Costello's Peel Sessions '77-'80 as no one has obliged I had a look around the net and it seems there are only poor sounding versions of these available.

So I dug out my old cassette tapes from back in the day and digitalized them. Remastered them and cleaned up the sound and they now sound pretty decent. Obviously taken from pre FM radio so only as good as the original source material. These make for a great listen and it's a shame they have not had an official release apart from the odd track on his expanded editions. Made some nice artwork. Enjoy!

From time to time as I go through my old tapes/bootleg vinyls and CDR's I will upload the results here. Please don't share elsewhere. Cheers Marky.

Just realised these are Flac files and you only like MP3's?

Hello Marky,

Thanks again! When do you find time to sleep? I've listed to a few tracks but will give it a complete listen later tonight - sounds rough in a good way!

I have a FLAC converter that came with my laptop but it's a bitch to use. As soon as you line up a few tracks it just breaks down. Can get there eventually though.

Thanks so much Marky, not just for posting these, but for doing so from my idle request. Over and above the call of duty, and very much appreciated.

Mega-Marky Thanks for this! I've always been confused about those early Peel sessions - tracks have been dotted about on various reissues, bootlegs etc and sometimes wrongly described. Having a full set from the man who taped them at the time is a godsend.
Great sound and stereo too - tons I've not heard here.
I've been revisiting some early EC lately and can recommend a 2CD boot called Unloved Songs - it's easy to find online 'out there' although, only in MP3 it seems. Rumoured to be outtakes stuff prepared for the expanded reissues of early EC albums, but not included in the final versions.
(an example of the Peel sessions confusion is this set - one website states tracks are Peel sessions but they're actually pro-recorded soundcheck recordings, possibly from that Nashville Rooms 1977 gig that was on the My Aim Is True expanded reissue)

Cheers John. I've got that two disc set which I think surfaced around 2005 when Rhino were doing his reissue campaign. The thing that struck me and that I had never thought about before was there would be Peel sessions outtakes. I always thought of it as get in bang down the track and get out. But maybe certain artist did multiple takes and picked the best one.

Also I'm sure I have those tracks in Flac. I will investigate and add it to my list of many projects. ;)

Yeah, that's why that set sounds so good, it's though to have been sourced from preparations for the Rhino reissues.

Don't bust a gut on this on MY behalf - and Lord knows you must have many other things to prioritise - but one day it'd be great to get that stuff in FLAC

So JohnS I checked through all my boots/DVD's etc. I did indeed have those soundchecks from the "Unloved Songs" in Flac and decided to compile all the great odds & sods from '76-'79. Big job but I'm well chuffed with the results.

Okay next up is this beauty and essential for any Costello fan. Another absolute labour of love from me.
