Frightened Rabbit

Post by WestwayKid »

Just saw that Frightened Rabbit front man Scott Hutchison was found dead in a suspected suicide. I was not a huge fan - but I chanced upon them at Lollapalooza back in 2014 and thought they put on a pretty good show. I checked out a few of their albums over the years and I've always enjoyed listening to them. Very sad.

Never heard of them before today, but I saw a tweet with a note he sent to a depressed fan along with a gift, and he seemed like a really decent guy caught in a terrible depression himself.

Lots of people on my twitter talking about how his music helped them get through their own depression.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

Yeah, I saw them in 2014 and sort of got into them...then I went through a very depressing divorce in 2015 and I listened to them quite a bit. I found this quote regarding their third album, The Winter of Mixed Drinks: "I think we've all had odd, lonely, fallow periods in life, where you find yourself detached from everything, drifting and lost. That's what [the title] means to me, but most importantly, it's the moments of joy afterwards, during recovery, that defines the dark period." He was talking about the title of that album...but that's kind of how I felt about their music in general.

Never explored them deeply myself, but I've always loved this song. RIP.
