Just another notch in the death of quality journalism by a thousand cuts. I despise the way editors and media bean counters dress up the move to digital as some kind of new and exciting means of enhancing quality for the reader when any schmuck knows it is simply a means of producing ever more content at an increasingly cheaper price. It's all so depressing.

That way the consumer can be blamed for their own dissatisfaction. Hey, we're offering you a brave new world. It's interactive! It's multimedia! It's [buzzword]. If you don't like it, it's because you're living in a dinosaur past.Low Down Low wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 12:43pmJust another notch in the death of quality journalism by a thousand cuts. Re: NME to end print edition
Yeah part of it is also the change in the way people choose to "consume" such media. There's a whole lotta people who wont plunk down $$ for a print edition. "Why cant I get it for free online?"

How many years has it been since NME was associated with quality journalism?Low Down Low wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 12:43pmJust another notch in the death of quality journalism by a thousand cuts.

Yeah that's part of it and I'd happily admit to being one of those dinosaurs. I still want the dirty smudge of newsprint on my fingers when getting my daily fix. But nothing they say can convince me that all these shiny interactive new features with all their bells and whistles are any substitute for the quality, investigative reporting they are undermining and, in many cases, even replacing. Just wish the cunts would tell the truth for once, or at least not lie so blatantly about it. It's a dont piss on me and tell me it's raining kind of thing.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 12:51pmThat way the consumer can be blamed for their own dissatisfaction. Like many a British institution, the correct era for its golden age was the year and a half after the reader started buying it.oliver wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 1:34pmHow many years has it been since NME was associated with quality journalism?Low Down Low wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 12:43pmJust another notch in the death of quality journalism by a thousand cuts.

Luckily, I'm part of the only generation that actually managed to read the NME in its best era: when it concentrated almost solely on nu-rave and sloppy Libertines rip-off merchants in skinny jeans.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 6:39pmMany ways to get what you wantSilent Majority wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 6:27pmLike many a British institution, the correct era for its golden age was the year and a half after the reader started buying it.oliver wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 1:34pmHow many years has it been since NME was associated with quality journalism?Low Down Low wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 12:43pmJust another notch in the death of quality journalism by a thousand cuts.

No, they aren't available in my college library for free in 2007, so I'm afraid I won't be reading them.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 6:47pmWell you'll always have Mojo, Q, and Uncut. I don't know about the golden age but Napster killed the NME for me. I no longer bought albums on review alone but could actually sample them first (or at least find and listen to popular songs.)Silent Majority wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 6:27pmLike many a British institution, the correct era for its golden age was the year and a half after the reader started buying it.oliver wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 1:34pmHow many years has it been since NME was associated with quality journalism?Low Down Low wrote: ↑07 Mar 2018, 12:43pmJust another notch in the death of quality journalism by a thousand cuts.

Re: NME to end print edition
From 1988 - 1998 the NME was pretty much my music bible read it from cover to cover and fingers covered in ink ..
Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."
