How about that “who’s your daddy?” Song. Was just in the trailer for that Spacey movie that they swapped him out with an actual old man.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

If it’s an actual 60s comedy movie, there’s at least a 40% chance there will be someone in a gorilla suit somewhere in it.
This made me laugh like a buffoon. The wife was sitting next to me and I tried to explain it to no avail.

I have a completely irrational hatred for that song. That chorus - "It's the tiiiiime fooor the season of looooovvve..." or whatever it is, sounds like the template for Yes and their ilk. Really chaps my ass.

Man, that chick who sang with the Zombies had such a sexy voice. I'd sure like to bang her, I'll tell you what.

Such a wide spectrum to choose from Velvet Underground to the Four Tops and everything in between
VU is too outre for most 60s flicks, I'd say. As Inder put it, the songs from Time-Life ads—with aging Boomers grooving on their past, "when the music meant something."
Is that Freedom Rock?
Like, you know it, man!

Gave a lecture today on rock music and Vietnam. Played Country Joe & the Fish (gotta do that) and CCR's "Fortunate Son," which I described as "just a middle finger of a song." Plenty of kids clearly grooving on CCR, which was a great antidote to any kind Toto bullshit in that generation.

(Also, everyone properly snickered when I mentioned the Beach Boys' "Student Demonstration Time." Tho I said it in a snotty way. Still.)

Because it happened so gradually, nobody truly realized at the time that becoming a Beach Boys fan meant acquiring layer after layer of disfiguring psychological scars.
