Because the relative in question was a Nazi guard, not, as conventional interpretation would have it, a prisoner. That's the joke, correct?

Speaking of, has anyone checked out that documentary about How Jim Carrey immersed himself into the Andy Kaufman role for Man In the Moon? I very much liked that movie, but I don't have an interest in entering Carrey's insanity.
