I wonder if he's ever thought of doing a complete album of instrumentals.
I'd drool over that. My favourite Smiths song is "Oscillate Wildly" and I rate highly both "The Draize Train" and "Money Changes Everything." I think he could pull off a helluvan album of instrumentals.

Yep I agree and I'd certainly buy it. It wouldn't do his credibility any harm either. His solo stuff is OK but nothing I would really rave over and he could shake the journey man tag.

I think I'd rather hear Marr play them without Morrissey's voice than Morrissey play them without Marr's guitar.
No-one can play it like Johnny Marr... but no-one can sing it like Morrissey. If only there was a way around this conundrum :)
Marr isn't an asshole; Morrissey is. Conundrum solved. :approve:
Maybe you're right. But Morrissey still sings those songs better than anyone.
I still think Morrissey has the best Morrissey style voice over anybody. If there was a Morrissey tribute act then Morrissey would have to be the lead singer.

Can't wait for Moz's cover of the Horst Wessel song.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I saw that the other day. His fall from grace has been somewhat fascinating...though not surprising. His lyrics and interviews have been littered with amazingly tone deaf comments for decades. I admit I was a huge Smiths fan as an awkward teen and I continued to be a fan until not that long ago...but as the quality of his music has declined and his stupid comments have increased...I really find him to have become massively distasteful.

That's pretty much my own path. He's chosen a baffling hill to die on, but so be it. He's whined about being unloved for so long and is making a helluva effort to ensure it be true.

That sleeve doesn't work very well. It looks like Morrissey is on the side of the police facing the scum.

It hasn't. Their music meant a lot to me for so long and I really have enjoyed a lot of Morrissey's solo work. To be honest, I liked Spent the Day in Bed when it came out. Just seems like there was a point where he could say dumb things and it wasn't exactly "funny" but there was a bite and a wit to it and then he lost that edge and just started coming across as being woefully behind the times. I've often felt he doesn't really believe a lot of the stuff he says - he just says it to be provocative because that worked for him for so many years - but he's lost the ability to be witty and he's now just boorish. I don't want to be an apologist because he's said some really dumb/awful things as of late. It's all really just kind of sad.
