In my dictionary, pretentious is defined as the lead singer's voice. I saw them in Clemson, SC and they were so programmed, they came out for ran encore as people were exiting. Totally rehearsed to the point of being staged, no human element - sorry, have I gone on too long?

I don't know if this is everyone's cup of tea but listening to Daydream Nation from beginning to end, uninterrupted is quite sublime for me. That album means so much to me

Here’s a trifactor from one song Nite Club - The Specials.
Brad’s five drum whacks (technical term) before the guitar solo.
Horace’s bassline.
Terry’s “ I won’t dance in a club like this, all the girls are slags and the beer tastes just like piss”

Totally agreed, and on that score: Brad's drumroll leading to Jerry's short but lovely organ solo after "But I can't stop the hatred running through my head" in Stupid Marriage.101Walterton wrote: ↑13 Nov 2017, 2:00pmHere’s a trifactor from one song Nite Club - The Specials.

Both great. When you read “ I won’t dance in a club like this, all the girls are slags and the beer tastes just like piss” on it's own it sounds like schoolboy stuff but within the context of the song and the mindset of the protagonist it works brilliantly.Kory wrote: ↑18 Nov 2017, 8:47pmTotally agreed, and on that score: Brad's drumroll leading to Jerry's short but lovely organ solo after "But I can't stop the hatred running through my head" in Stupid Marriage.101Walterton wrote: ↑13 Nov 2017, 2:00pmHere’s a trifactor from one song Nite Club - The Specials.

Like a lot of Specials lyrics, take them out of context and they take on a whole new meaning.Marky Dread wrote: ↑18 Nov 2017, 8:59pmBoth great. I was read an interview with Lynval about skinheads giving a nazi salute Whilst he was singing Why? Morons.

Very different and troubled times as you know. But I knew plenty who were completely confused by the black/white axis of punk and two-tone. Sometimes the politics were taken badly out of context. It's like that racism thing where you could call your best black friend a derogatory term as an endearment and he would reciprocate in full understanding like you both just got it. Try explaining that sort of camaraderie to people these days and they say oh that's not right you're a racist. But it was exactly the opposite you were mocking those who became so politically correct. Being able to have that type of total understanding with your friends helped to break down the social barriers and take the piss out of the biggots .101Walterton wrote: ↑18 Nov 2017, 11:01pmLike a lot of Specials lyrics, take them out of context and they take on a whole new meaning.Marky Dread wrote: ↑18 Nov 2017, 8:59pmBoth great. A sublime concert moment - at two Violent Femmes shows ago (about a year ago) in a smaller venue:
The audience singing "They do it all the time time time time ta ta time time, t t t t t t t t time ta time time...do it all the tiimmmmmeee" in unison dring "Kiss off" was really cool.

First time that chorus to "T.N.T." comes in. Rock and fucking Roll.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!
