Thom Yorke.
Inhabits some excruciating hinterland in between normal musical notes.

I will sign on for this criticism of Yorke's unintentional microtonality.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

That's way more subtle than your typical Aguilera riffing. Also, that song is amazing and her voice is amazing.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Re: Awful Voices Thread
That stuff seems like the vocal equivalent of metal soloing (guitar or drum). It's a demonstration of talent and technique, but how often is it good for the song?

Here among old fogeys I can admit that I do not understand why people go nuts for Queen Bey.

I don't think her voice is particularly great and I don't think her music is as interesting as Rihanna's, generally. Her persona is great and she knows how to package her product. I enjoyed a lot of the Lemonade album too.

I think Madonna is similar as someone who was a huge cultural icon and when you look back at her songs there are just a handful that are good relative to a lot of other artists.

The fact that a less than perfect vocal makes a song great in itself makes the vocal perfect.matedog wrote: ↑26 Oct 2017, 3:53pmSo? There's a weird appeal to Jagger's voice for me. However, Keith's lead vocals have always been god damn atrocious to me. How is "Happy" considered a good song by anyone? Yet it's apparently worthy of all of their best of comps. Any lead of his is an automatic skip for me. "You Got the Silver", ugh.
Ian Curtis is another example of this.
