I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

Vocals are a great thread subject though.
I’ve always been interested in why some voices are more appealing than others on a subjective basis. I am not talking about good v bad singers just personal preference.
I can listen to Bowie, Joe, Pete Doherty singing in the shower (regardless of how good the song is) yet I have to turn off the radio if Tina Turner is singing one of her 80/90’s hits (Private Dancer for one).
YES! Private Dancer is awful!

Ha! I used to describe Sebastian Bach's voice as having his nuts in a vice. Really, tho, he had a generic metal singer's screech.

To be honest, most of my favourite singers aren't technically great but that's not really the point. Terry Hall, Andy Partridge, Ray Davies, Shane MacGowan, Strummer, Weller, even Lennon, none of them are exactly Enrico Caruso. They sing in pitch and have great attitude and/or passion. Of my favourite bands I'd say only Roger Daltrey and Steve Marriott have technically great voices.
Agree with all of those.
Shame to admit I’m not a fan of Daltrey when he lets rip
Daltrey just tended to massively over sing everything. Wrecked his voice, in my opinion. Love Reign O'er Me is great...but the same vocal style applied to Sister Disco...not so much. It is like he lost his sense of dynamic range at a certain point and just decided to over sing everything and now he can't sing at all. Very sad.

Jesus Christ, Hoy. This is the Hoyest of all of your Hoyische opinions.

My vote goes to Billy Corgan and Eddie Vedder.

I'm not a fan of the Who after Quadrophenia so it's all good for me.

Yuck. I think there have been some great metal singers - Rob Halford comes to mind...but hair metal produced some truly awful singers. More about image and how you looked in tight trousers than how well you could sing.

I don’t like female opera singers. That warbling sound is like fingernails down a blackboard.
I can appreciate the skill but doesn’t mean I have to like it.

We agree on this. They had a few decent songs after that...but it was so hit and miss. "Eminence Front" is probably my fave post Quad song...and that one was sung by Pete.

I thought Ronnie James Dio was a good rock singer but never had much decent material to work with bar one Rainbow album. I loved Bon Scott's voice but he was another who wasn't technically great, just a very odd, lustful sounding voice.

I’m on a rant now.
I tell you what else I hate the current trend for singing where instead of just singing the note they sing the note then go up and down the scale round the houses and back again.
For an example watch any episode of The Voice, Whoever’s Got Talent etc..
Just sing the the bloody note!!!!
