Anyone who doesn't love track 9 on Sticky Fingers beware: I'll put Dead Flowers on your grave!
The daughter started carrying a spoon around all the time, so that inspired me to start playing the song for her on my uke based on the last verse. Mrs. Hoy was less than enthused.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

And count me a fan of Waiting on a Friend, though I'm not exactly known for aversions to sax solos.

After the testimony of Mr. Hoy, the prosecution rested. The judge and jury exchanged quick looks and agreed they didn't need to deliberate before rendering the guilty verdict.

Waiting On a Friend is shite. They really started sucking in the 80s.

It certainly is an average track.

I don't love Waiting On a Friend, but I don't hate it, either.

It's actually an old song, correct? Thought it was a Goat's Head Soup reject as it features Mick Taylor on guitar. Tattoo You was such a Frankenstein-type LP. I always thought Tops was a better ballad than Waiting on a Friend.

I think Maj was referring to the fact that Cliff sang back ups on Dirty Work as I'd mentioned the 80s.

Correct, Waiting On a Friend, as well as Tops, were both backing tracks from the 'Goats Head Soup' sessions in late '72, not necessarily rejects. The lyrics and vocals for the album were all done in '80-'81. Two tracks, Slave (also featuring Sonny Rollins) and Worried About You, were from the '75-'76 'Black And Blue' sessions. The rest were from 'Some Girls' ('77-'78), 'Emotional Rescue' ('79-'80) and two new songs - Heaven and Neighbours (featuring Sonny Rollins again).

Oh yes, I do like Sonny Rollins and Jimmy Cliff (Peter Tosh too, who appears in the Waiting On a Friend video ;) ). But as we all know, the Stones have sucked since '81>'78>'72>'69>'66>always. Pick a year, any year.
