Post by Heston »

I wanna talk about The Pogues.

Favourite song: The Sick Bed of Cucholainn

Album: Rum, Sodomy and the Lash

Great thread!

Fav song: a tie between Rake at the Gates of Hell, Misty Morning Albert Bridge, Rainy Night in Soho

Best album is If I should Fall, but have a soft spot for Peace and Love.

I love Rake at the Gates of Hell and the other stuff they did for the Straight To Hell soundtrack. That hillbilly version of If I Should Fall is actually better than the official version for me.

The Pogues killed Joe, you ghouls.

Even the last couple not that good albums are kinda good. Great band. RS&tL pretty much nailed it. All time album.

One great album from the last two records. Tuesday Morning is top 5 Pogues for me.

I agree with EVERYTHING Heston wrote. Bottle of Smoke is probably my second favorite song.

Both very decent albums. Proved they didn't NEED Shane, though of course they were better with him in his prime. They were all very good songwriters, Jem Finer a great one.

Either Body of an American, or If I Should Fall from Grace with God. Both songs are superfun.

I recall the moment
Before it slipped away
When five green queens on a black bin bag
Meant all the world to me
a lifetime serving one machine
Is ten times worse than prison

Did I ever share the inaugural and so far only chapter of my book about MacGowan's songs? It's from, I think, two years ago, but I will write the rest.

The last I heard about The Pogues is Shane injured his pelvis and it's taking a long time to heal. Plus his mother passed away.
Have you heard more?
