I used to be able to tell an indie, lefty book by two qualities—bleached, almost bright white paper and some kind of sans serif font. Helvetica means the revolution or something, I guess. I haven't noticed it as much in the last decade or so, however. The conspiracy is infiltrating serifs.

I am, of course, pretty dim on this angle of presentation (I'm stronger on the content of the text), but aren't simpler, more straight-forward fonts the better choice?
