Have we discussed what a god awful cover this is?
Image
Is there a need to? I mean it is at lest representative of the music.

I guess I'm just annoyed that I don't see it on "Worst Album Covers" lists.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I take it that it's the Warner Bros. logo you find offensive.🤣

Let's let Sabbath week continue. What the fuck is with their album covers? They are all over the place:

Creepy ass nightmare fuel. Ozzy looks like a witch.

Image
This looks creepy and hard to figure out at first glance until you realize it's an echo image or a slow exposure of a goofy looking cop with a sword? in the forest?

Image
Now we go all text. Glad that Warner Brothers label that sticks out matches the color scheme.

Image
I would assume this is a live album based on the image.

Image
Now we are doing a parody of 80s metal albums that are yet to exist.

Image
Just what the fuck is this?

Image
Great now we have Hipgnosis and Storm Thorgerson's bullshit - robots shooting eye laser while on an escalator.

Image
I think there are one or two decent Hipgnosis album covers and the rest are abysmal. This is the latter.

Heavy metal bands didn't warrant much of a promo budget in the early days, so the sleeves were pretty slap dash.

It's not necessarily that they are all bad, I quite enjoy the first one, but there are just so different from each other in every possible way.

The first cover is great, totally captures the feel of the album for me.

There was an alternative cover for Paranoid that showed up

But the album was intended to be called War Pigs but depending on who you ask the record company wouldn't go for that as the title (Vietnam War was still going at the time).

Vol4 isnt a live album. I believe it was originally planned to be titled Snowblind as they did ridiculous amounts of coke while recording the album and that is one of the songs on it. Record company wasnt going for that album title either still an odd choice of artwork.

SBS has a great cover.

Even with sites that cover left-of-centre artists, I figure I'm doing good if I've heard of 25%. Which might be age, but I imagine it's also just so much music being released.
