Interesting observation. I'll try this out on saturday.eumaas wrote:For those that have both, listen to Ornette on Tenor then Where is Brooklyn?--I think you can draw a straight line between the two. Tenor pushes freebop towards the energy school and Brooklyn picks it up a couple steps later.

What is your favorite nickname for a jazzman? The most interesting are the ones that you don't normally hear about- that were only in use among the musicians. For example: Joe Henderson was known as 'The Phantom' because he would frequently and without warning become unavailable for weeks at a time, even with a session scheduled.

Re: Satch's Late Night (The Jazz Thread)
I have the first Die Like A Dog Quartet release in mp3 and it's fucking great, incidentally. The electric trumpet really kicks things up a notch--Kondo lays down some abstract harmonies reminiscent of ambient and IDM. Sometimes the music sounds ancient.eumaas wrote:http://www.atavistic.com/albums.php?id=449

Machine Gun is what separates the men from the SRPs.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Re: Satch's Late Night (The Jazz Thread)
It's one hell of an album. I think it's the best of its kind--compare it to Free Jazz, Ascension, and New York Eye and Ear Control, and I think Machine Gun comes out on top due to purity of purpose: to blow the fucking roof off.Flex wrote:Machine Gun is what separates the men from the SRPs.

Totally forgot this:
"Brötzmann, the tenor sax player, one of the greatest alive."
- Bill Clinton, when asked by the Oxford American to name a musician people would be surprised he listened to.
