I have An Addiction

Post by 101Walterton »

to music documentaries!!
Last night I watched a documentary about Jethro Tull. I knew of them but didn't know much about them. At the end I realised it was 2 hours long!!! There was one song in the whole doco that was vaguely familiar, the rest never heard before or want to hear again but the doco was great.
I am fascinated to hear about how a band's music came to be and the history of bands. Some really bad bands still have great stories to tell.

I actively dislike the Tull but I LOVE the song "Living in the Past." It makes me want to become a Druid.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

That's the thing, even if I hate the music I still find the docos fascinating.

Just looked that up on YouTube that was the one song I knew. At least I think I do but it sounds like something else.

Apparently a lot of Spinal Tap was based on Jethro Tull.

Hello,

I'm old enough to recall Aqualung and Locomotive Breath being popular in High School. I remember Jethro Tull was responsible for modern farming.

The band was quite pretentious.

I similarly enjoyed the Eagles doc.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Jethro Tull won the first Grammy for hard rock/metal, beating out Metallica and ACDC. Them Grammy voters, they know the kids and their crazy music.

But wasn't it fun to see Metallica get all apoplectic? not a Tull fan by any means, but it was worth it. :)

Probably my favorite Metallica song from that very Grammy ceremony:

I like a few JT songs, my dad loved them. Too Old To Rock and Roll, Too Young to Die was always my fave.
