Hello,

RIP Chuck Berry. I saw him at the Lone Star in NYC a long time ago. He was so influential - most people today fail to recognize it.

He's as immortal as his guitar sound and incredible songwriting.

I saw Chuck Berry live, twice. I've seen a few 'legends' over the years but with him, I got a really strong sense of, wow, what this fella on stage in front of me is doing has inspired virtually every rock guitarist who is also playing live right now. All round the world. It was weird, and wonderful.
RIP Chuck!

Hard to believe he lived as long as he did. All those old timers lived pretty rough lives, but he had an intense life. Of those 50s cats, he's the one who best rivalled Elvis for shaping the aesthetics, aural and visual, of rock n roll.

No patch on Elvis P., but Chuck was the true "King of Rock n' Roll". He influenced waaay more people with his guitar playing alone than even Scotty Moore did with Elvis. His songwriting as well set the template for modern popular music (Elvis couldn't write a song to save his life). He was a better singer than EP, a better performer, and better looking too. And just as weird. But his skin color was wrong.

Jesus Christ. Do you think Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard are dead too?

I am kicking myself for never seeing him at Blueberry Hill. Up until about two years ago, he would play in their Duck Room monthly. About 10 minutes from my house.

He truly meant a lot not only to rock music (obviously), but to St. Louis as well. RIP, Chuck.

I was in St. Lou about 6-7 years ago and am kicking myself for not roping that into the trip. Also, he liked to be peed on.

Posted to fb, but this was the first album I ever bought:

Mostly because of Back to the Future and Young Einstein, but it still counts. Like those above me, I regret not seeing him when he was still performing (though it would have definitely been more of a trek for me than Jen).
