Post by Inder »

I've seen some people doing this on Twitter. Easier if you use last.fm/spotify/make a smart iTunes playlist and sort by number of plays.

Songs:

1. The db's — A Spy in the House of Love
2. Rockit — (Blame It On) The Pony Express
3. The Nice Boys — Johnny Guitar
4. Dexys — This is What She's Like
5. Terry & Louie — Looking For a Heart
6. Eddie Floyd — Big Bird
7. The Nice Boys — Teenage Nights
8. Dexys — I Love You (Listen to This)
9. Dexys — Kevin Rowland's 13th Time
10. The Five Sounds — Peanut Butter

Artists:

1. Dexys
2. The Nice Boys
3. The Beatles
4. Gentleman Jesse
5. Stelvio Cipriani
6. The db's
7. Martin Denny
8. Peter Doherty
9. Mott the Hoople
10. Claude Vasori

Nice to see Dexy's at the top of the list. What did you think of this year's album? That would be on my list of most played CDs this year.

For the Laxfamily as a whole Lexicon of Love II would be at the top of the list. I think it is is pretty much played every day.

I don't use playlists so I'll have to work out what I have played most this year.

My Tasty Cutz 2016 playlist more or less corresponds with most listened:
https://open.spotify.com/user/matedog/p ... NBwzJBQjim

(In no order)
Jeff Rosenstock - Festival Song
Divers - Achin' On
Diarrhea Planet - Announcement
dvsn - Hallucinations
Mitski - Your Best American Girl
Kevin Gates - 2 Phones
Blood Orange - Best To You
Brand New - I Am a Nightmare
Usher - Crash
Rihanna - Higher
Carly Ray Jepsen - Higher
The Weeknd/Daft Punk - Starboy
Chance the Rapper - No Problem
Bon Iver - 8 (circle)
Sturgill Simpson - Welcome to Earth (Pollywog)
The xx - On Hold
Alex Cameron - The Comeback
Run the Jewels - Legend Has It
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Spotify usually does this at the end of the year, so I'll have my list then. I can tell you right now the top 3 will be Bowie/Beatles/Morrissey, though.

The first half of the year was all Bowie, then it was the summer of listening to the Kinks Village Green over and over, and I've spent the last 2 months teaching my wife album cuts from the Stones. If any other artists existed other than those three, I don't know a thing about them. :)

Being old, depressed and fucked up, mostly all I listened to all year was Bowie and Prince.
And the Screaming Blue Messiahs box, the deluxe editions of Big Country's first four albums and Marky's remasters of the Clash catalog. Other than that stuff it was the local jazz station.

Oh and the new Stones album is pretty terrific.

Hello,

The new Stones album is very good - only electric blues but well done.

I kind of find this difficult to answer. Most music that I listen to resides on my phone e which I play in my car. I just have all the songs on a random shuffle. I don't think the player I have has stats.

I realized my last.fm hasn't been updating most of the year, so I don't have really good numbers on what I've been listening to. But, anecdotally, I suspect my top artists include Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys, NOFX, Bowie, Misfits, Meat Puppets.

I might see if I can suss out a little more data somehow.
