I listen to something different everyday. This year I have bought more music than ever before.

Sounds like me - too much variety to ID an overall trend, but I bloody love the Fallen Leaves and gave their compilation LP a few spins this year!Marky Dread wrote:Most played maybe The Fallen Leaves and of course Bowie.Marky Dread wrote:I listen to something different everyday. Bought less cds than ever this year on account of contracting the streaming virus. Not sure I like it especially, but have to say it's very convenient.
Only new releases I bought were Dexys, Leonard Cohen and Regina Spektor after hearing her on the Jools Holland thing and I'm delighted to have "discovered" her, she is rather good.

Her version of No Surprises manages to make a Radiohead song sound great.Low Down Low wrote:Bought less cds than ever this year on account of contracting the streaming virus. Not sure I like it especially, but have to say it's very convenient.

Do we have a thread of examples like this? I feel like we should.Silent Majority wrote:Her version of No Surprises manages to make a Radiohead song sound great.Low Down Low wrote:Bought less cds than ever this year on account of contracting the streaming virus. No, it was a miraculous one time thing, making Radiohead interesting.JennyB wrote:Do we have a thread of examples like this? Yeah - that's like the equivalent of the big bang. But, I'm sure there are other examples of this with other bands. Let me think...Silent Majority wrote:No, it was a miraculous one time thing, making Radiohead interesting.JennyB wrote:Do we have a thread of examples like this? Re: Most listened to songs/artists/etc of 2016
For no good reason I can think of, 2016 seems to have been the year of The Ruts.
A steady mix of punk rock and dub.
The new Ruts DC album and a couple of live/retrospectives added to the collection means they've been there or there abouts for most of the year.
Surgery without research and bad breeding(thanks Marky) have popped in and out too, to stop me mellowing in my dotage.

I haven't played the new album enough yet but I got a new release compilation too (with the In a Can compilation and some live stuff on it), so they figure on my list.wmhp wrote:For no good reason I can think of, 2016 seems to have been the year of The Ruts.

Enjoying the new Madness album. Couple of throwback ska numbers but I really love the ballads / poems Blackbird and Pam The Hawk. Madness have always had great poems but haven't always put them in a track that does them justice but with these two they have nailed it especially Suggs vocals.

Another solid Madness album. Their best since Norton.101Walterton wrote:Enjoying the new Madness album. Yep played plenty of Ruts/DC this year but they always get a lot of play any year. Seeing them support The Stranglers in March.wmhp wrote:For no good reason I can think of, 2016 seems to have been the year of The Ruts.
